Photo Assignment #5 Still Life

This week I chose to shoot still life photography. It wasn't that difficult to think of creative ideas, however it was difficult for me to successfully get the picture I saw in my head to appear on my camera. The lighting was a little difficult so I resorted back to the balancing of the floor lamp across my lap to shoot. I think the overall outcome came out pretty well. The photo I chose was my favorite because of the shadows of the frame and the simplicity of the overall shot. I have used these scrabble tiles in a project I did in Drawing and Painting and realized they make for a nice photograph.
Technical Data:
ISO: 200
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/60 Second

Photo Assignment #4 Light Painting

This week I chose to do light painting. It was a real challenge to me. I wanted to get that perfect light painting shot but it is a lot harder than I thought. I got some good not great shots and then put them into GIMP to retouch some minor things. I think I ended up with a wide array of different light painting techniques and strategies. The picture I chose is of two stuffed animals in my room. They were sitting in the corner with their arms around one another and I thought it looked pretty funny. I moved them into the middle of my room, shut the lights off, drew a heart behind them and then put the flashlight pointing at their faces to spot light them. Its my favorite because I actually painted with the light opposed to just pointing it at an object to emphasize it which I did with a couple of my photos.ISO: 100
Shutter: 10 Seconds
Aperture: f/5.6

Panoramic

This was another GIMP assignment. The purpose of the assignment was to learn the perspective tools, the scale tools, shear tools, and move tools. We had to go out and take three photos of a scene overlapping approximately 10-20% of the photo to the next. We then took the three pictures into GIMP and layered them together. It was a little difficult at first, but as you work with the picture you can see it become a full panoramic. Here is my shot.

Photo Assignment #3- Inspire

This week I chose to do my choice assignment. I do a lot of scrapbooking and throughout my scrapbooking I have come across quote books. Inside the quote books I have fallen in love with some of the quotes. I thought it would be really cool to make these quotes come alive in the way that I see them. I took photos either with a quote in mind or a vague idea of what I wanted it to say. Some pictures have inspirational song quotes while others are straight up quotes. I chose this picture as my favorite because I really liked the way I was able to edit the light and colors. I held up a desk lamp outside the frame to get more of a spot light effect as well as some clear shadows. I boosted the contrast and lowered the brightness to get this sort of worn out paper color, but the red still popped. This quote was found in a scrap book quote page.ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/250 Seconds
Aperture: f/5.6

Photo Assignment #2 Black and White

I chose to shoot pictures for the black and white photo assignment. I really liked the way simple landscape/nature pictures look really cool in black and white so a large majority of my pictures for this week are just simple nature pictures. Some of my favorite pictures for this assignment were ones I took of the baby my sister babysits for. She is already so cute to begin with and the black and white made her look even cuter. This assignment we were introduced to GIMP and were allowed to use it to edit our photos.

I chose this picture for my best picture because I thought it was a nice landscape layout picture. I tend to shoot in portrait a lot more than landscape and this one was one of my favorite landscapes. It just gave a different twist to my work.ISO: 800 (Shot in a dim room)
Shutter: 1/50 sec
Aperture: f/5.6

Gimp Assignment 2

This assignment was all about learning Gimp. We learned how to work the levels function, the select tool, the clone tool and more. We had to take a picture that was taken by a previous student and edit out the background and make some minor touch ups. The final product is really cool.

Photo Assignment 1-Nature

For the first week's photo assignment I chose to take pictures of nature. I had realized that I already taken a lot of good photos of nature and could easily put together a well rounded group of photos. I found a couple things difficult when shooting pictures of nature including focusing up close to a flower or something else like that and getting the right ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to get a decent exposure. After experimenting for a while I got a little more used to the adjustments and came up with some good pictures. I got a lot of my photos directly from my yard/garden and the park down the street, Mary McCann Park.
The following picture is my favorite of the group:
ISO: 100
Shutter Speed: 1/200 Seconds
Aperture: f/5

Gimp Assignment 1

The purpose of this assignment was to experiment with Gimp. We learned how to change the colors of photos and change the threshold of the photo. By doing this we were able to create a photo in the style of Pop Art, similar to Andy Warhol. My photo is a picture I took on the beach in South Padre Island.

Photo Assignment #1

This week I plan on taking pictures of Nature and Landscape. I have found throughout the trimester that I already take a lot of pictures of nature and I want to get them all together in an album. I hope to shoot not only closeups of flowers but also some landscapes. I was inspired by the following flower pictures.

Composition Assignment

This assignment was all about learning the different elements of composition. We had to take at least one shot of the eleven different elements we explored and discovered. The pictures could be taken from the school itself or from home. My pictures are a mixture of a bunch of locations.

Color: Old Car
Balence: Grass Concrete
Perspective: Arrow
Framing: Pipe Fountain
Space: Necklace
Patttern: Bottles
Texture: Tree Trunk
Symmetry: Parking Spot
Lines: Broken Pathway
Rule of Thirds: Sand Trap Heart
Depth of Field: Flower

Throughout this assignment I learned a lot of new things about techniques and elements to photography. I had previously used some of these techniques in my art classes but it was interesting to apply them to my photography. I feel like there was a clear improvement to my previous attempts at photography.
